Despite the evident benefits of 3D Printing in optimizing production processes, challenges such as high costs, quality improvements, lack of automation, and a need for seamless digital integration persist. The 3DOP project focuses on strategically addressing these bottlenecks through the setup of an integrated innovation and investment ecosystem framework, the development of targeted technical solutions, and the establishment of sustainable investment chains.
The project is built upon four technical packages (WP2-5) aiming at developing and deploying market-ready innovations (from TRL6+ as starting point) that are key for the future development of Additive Manufacturing in Europe (and beyond). The innovations developed in each WP allow unlocking industrial investment across different value chains amongst end-users, as well as within AM industry. The project addresses specific industrial challenges in specific value chains / supply chains and is driven by the needs of leading industrial companies.
ProM Facility uses additive and subtractive manufacturing techniques (DED + milling) using the DMG Mori Lasertec 65 Hybrid printer to repair some small to medium-sized industrial valves utilizing the recycled atomized metal powders. The qualification testing and the X-ray tomography of electronic prototypes will be performed by ProM Facility if required.
The project – lasting 36 months from 1 January 2023 to 31 December 2025 – has a total budget of approximately 10 million euros, of which about 332 thousand euros allocated to Trentino Sviluppo and ProM Facility.
Within WP6 of the project, an open call with two cut-off dates is foreseen, aimed at SMEs interested in adopting Additive Manufacturing technologies in their products and/or business processes. The selected companies will have free trials of advanced services to optimize production, efficiency, and sustainability in 3D printing, all with the aim of bringing technologies from the laboratory to the market, reaching the maximum level of technological maturity.
The Italian regions eligible for the call are the following: Trento, Lombardy, Emilia-Romagna, Friuli-Venezia Giulia, Piedmont, Molise, Campania, Puglia, Basilicata, Calabria, Sicily and Sardinia.
